well nt as bad as the pictureBUT ITS BAD TO HEAR SEVERE ACNE OK!*stab stab*hahaBUT! i shall stop complaining now and move on! hahadid u know ?1. Acne is the term for plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and even deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and even the upper arms.Acne develops as a result of blockages in follicles. Hyperkeratinization and formation of a plug of keratin and sebum (a microcomedo) is the earliest change. Enlargement of sebaceous glands and an increase in sebum production occur with increased androgen. The microcomedo may enlarge to form an open comedo (blackhead) or closed comedo (whitehead). Whiteheads are the direct result of skin pores becoming clogged with sebum, a naturally occurring oil, and dead skin cells. In these conditions the naturally occurring largely commensal bacteria Propionibacterium acnes can cause inflammation, leading to inflammatory lesions in the dermis around the microcomedo or comedo, which results in redness and may result in scarring or hyperpigmentation2.While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. When severe, acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring. Even less severe cases can lead to scarring.3.In most cases, acne starts between the ages of ten and thirteen and usually lasts for five to ten years. It normally goes away on its own sometime in the early twenties. However, acne can persist into the late twenties or thirties or even beyond
Acne affects young men and young women about equally, but there are differences. Young men are more likely than young women to have more severe, longer lasting forms of acne.[due to more androgen production]. In contrast, young women are more likely to have intermittent acne due to hormonal changes associated with their menstrual cycle and acne caused by cosmetics. 4.PRIMARY CAUSES: ->Family/Genetic history.
->Hormonal activity, such as menstrual cycles and puberty. During puberty, an increase in male sex hormones called androgens cause the follicular glands to get larger and make more sebum.
Inflammation, skin irritation or scratching of any sort will activate inflammation.
->Stress
->Hyperactive sebaceous glands
->Accumulation of dead skin cells that block or cover pores
->Bacteria in the pores. Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) is the anaerobic bacterium that causes acne.
->Use of anabolic steroids
->Any medication containing lithium, barbiturates or androgens
->Exposure to certain chemical compounds. Chloracne
->Exposure to halogens
->Chronic use of amphetamines
